The Street Is The Real Catwalk - November Edition

Words + Photography by Noor-u-Nisa Khan.

Fashion Week was my introduction into the street style world, and not long after I noticed the lack of representation as to who was being photographed. As a Muslim myself, the most obviously underrepresented group were Muslims. To start off, there weren’t many to photograph which could explain the lack of coverage. Today, however, we have such an amazing group of Muslim women representing us in the fashion world and this past season I made a point to make sure I got their snaps. It’s a really great feeling, being able to see the kind of women I would look for in other people's images and now being able to photograph them for myself. I am super proud to be a Muslim and to see other Muslim women propelling in their careers—especially in the fashion industry.
